Roof Moss a BIG Problem?
Professional Roof Cleaners - Roof Moss Scraping - Chemical Cleaning

Scraping Moss Away & Biocide Roof Cleaning Treatments
The roofs on your house can start to look grubby and dirty over time. The roof tiles can attract moss, dirt and algae growth – especially if they are in the vicinity of trees and heavily shaded and damp areas. North facing roofs have a particular tendancy to grow moss on the roof tiles, along with algae, lichen and other bio matter. Traffic and busy roads are also another factor for your roof to attract dirt and debris over time. Moss build up on the roof tiles, can absorb and hold onto moisture. When this water freezes, it expands and can break roof tiles and cause long term damage to your roof – if the roof moss is not removed and kept at bay. Therefore regular cleaning & maintenance is essential to keep your roof looking great and performing as it should. It is an area of your home that you forget about, but plays an essential part in protecting you and your possessions. An area of your home you want to work effectively and not look a mess. Here at Storm Window Cleaning & Maintenance – We offer a complete roof cleaning & maintenance service. We will give your roof that cleaning transformation it deserves.
Roof Cleaning – The Safest Way
1/ Scraping the heavy moss deposits away with specially contoured roof scrapers that match your specific roof tile
By using specially formed steel blade, contoured roof scrapers our roof cleaners clear away all heavy moss deposits from the roof tiles down the roof to the gutter line. By using professional telescopic reinforced poles – much of this work can be carried out from the ground or ladders. This avoids costly scaffolding towers – which helps with keeping our costs to an affordable level. Obviously if scaffolding access towers are required to reach areas of the roof – these will be used.
2/ All areas are brushed and cleared of loose moss debris
By using specialist telescopic detail wired brushes, all smaller elements of moss are cleared and cleaned away from the roof surface. This allows for hard to access areas to be reached.
3/ Pre-spray chemical cleaner applied to the roof tiles
By using heavy duty pre-spray cleaners and detergents on the roof tiles – an initial deep clean can be achieved. These contain special foaming surfactants. These helps the chemical remain in contact with the roof tiles – rather than quickly running away into your gutters. Over time the orgiginal roof coatings which were applied to the roof tiles can degrade. This pre-spray cleaning process brings the tiles back to life and cuts through much of the many years of dirt & grime build up.
4/ Rinse down with Water to all roof surfaces
To prevent any chemical reactions between chemical cleaners and biocides taking place – all areas of the roof are rinsed down with water. This helps dislodge any remaining items of moss and prepares the roof for the final stage of biocide treatment
5/ Application of Biocide soft wash chemical
The final stage of the roof cleaning process is to apply a generous coating of biocide chemical to the roof tilled surface. This soaks into all the gaps and cracks and kills off all remaining moss spores. It also goes to work on difficult to remove lichen. Gradually over a period of 8-12 months the roof will gradually clean itself. Any remaining dead moss and lichen will release and blow away in the breeze. The biocide treatment will then carry on acting to protect your roof form any future moss regrowth.

Scraping Moss from Roof Tiles & Killing Moss Spores & Lichen

Restoring Roofs in Leicestershire & South Derbyshire
Over time your exterior roof tiles will darken with soot and dirt from traffic pollution, generate a build up of moss and lichen, form other bio-films. These will degrade the aesthetic of your property. However, this build up of moss, etc – more importantly may contribute to blocking your gutters. If left unchecked and not properly maintained – your roof tiles, roof membraines and roof timbers could be damaged through damp and other attacks by the elements. Give your home a new lease of life with a good and effective clean of your roof. We use a combination of tile scraping, pre-wash treatments and applications of biocide to lift away the dirt, remove the persistant build up of moss and kill any remaining moss spores and lichen. The result – a miraculous transformation of your roof. Give your home a Spring clean it deserves.
